Future Leaders Programme visits Rockwood Academy on Study Tour
On Friday 12th October, Rockwood Academy played host to education charity Ambition School Leadership, an organisation that recently merged with the Institute for Teaching, providing leadership development and technical training to educators across England and Wales.
The visitors attended Rockwood Academy for the day as part of ASL’s Future Leaders programme; a two-year leadership development programme for senior leaders with the potential to become headteachers of schools in challenging contexts. As part of their training, they’ve visited several schools across the country.
As part of their ‘study tour’, the visitors observed lessons throughout the day, meeting students and teachers and getting a hands-on experience of Rockwood Academy and the learning that takes place.
The interactions between students, teachers, and Future Leader visitors sparked forward-thinking and thought-provoking conversations, one student commenting: “The teachers are getting paid, but that is just a side effect. They are here at Rockwood Academy because they want to help the next generation.”
The visitors thoroughly enjoyed their time at Rockwood Academy, finding the experience to be enriching to their own learning development. One of the Future Leader visitors, Tom Jordan, described the day as “an experience I won’t forget. Such a lot to think about and the difference being made in the local community is quite remarkable. A school that I’m sure will continue to go from strength to strength.”
