Rockwood Academy raise £470 for Macmillan Cancer Support
On Monday 1st October, Rockwood Academy played host to a Macmillan Coffee Morning to raise funds for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity.
Organised by Ms Bi-Baroo, both students and staff contributed cakes and bakes that were sold across the morning. Year 7 students were encouraged to make ‘international cakes’ as part of a celebration of European languages.
Seizing the opportunity to enjoy some sweet treats whilst fundraising for an important cause, participants in the morning raised £470 in total.
Macmillan Cancer Support provide support, advice, and care to Cancer patients and their families from as early as a diagnosis, whether someone needs advice about money and work or simply someone to talk to.
The fantastic total raised at the Rockwood Macmillan Coffee Morning could be used by Macmillan in a number of ways, including either the hire of a room for a year so a cancer self-help and support group can hold regular meetings to support people affected in their community, the payment for a Macmillan Grant that helps a family affected by cancer take a holiday and enjoy precious time together, and could pay for a Macmillan nurse for a day, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support, among other things.
