With Kyle Edmund flying the flag for British tennis ‘down under’, City Academy students have been doing their bit to nurture the next generation of Australian Open champions. On Thursday last week, a group of Year 9 students demonstrated their skills as tennis coaches at the Billesley Indoor Tennis Centre. This is part of the Sports Leader Programme that enables secondary school age students to demonstrate their knowledge and skills within specific sports through coaching primary school pupils.
This is being organised by Miss Reed in her role as School Games Organiser and this week it is the turn of Year 10 sports leaders to demonstrate their understanding of tennis and their leadership of younger students in a sporting arena. Perhaps in a decade or two a future Wimbledon champion will look back on the day that they were coached how to produce a cross-court backhand by a City Academy student.
